Semester One
Course Description: Acting
Techniques fills the sophomore requirement in the Arts porgram. It is sequential with the Theater Humanities
or Ating One course and will take the concepts first studies there and apply
them to more concentrated performance work.
Emphasis in this course is twofold:
To understand the creative process of acting both from a physical and
analytical approach.
Course Objectives
To appreciate Theater as an Art form by
1. taking part in classroom projects and performances.
2. developing skills for rigor, commitment and
discipline.
To understand and appreciate the Creative Process by
1. exploring and developing your own natural
talents.
2. evaluating, reflecting upon and refining
your work.
3. evaluating and reflecting upon the work of
others.
4. learing to give and accept constructive
criticism.
To form a process for Acting and performance by
1. learning and applying both technique and
emotional connection.
2. learning and using a common vocabulary.
3. gaining self-confidence through a mastery of
skills.
4. appreciating and incorporating progressive
risk taking.
5. demonstrating responsibility for group and ensemble efforts.
Introduction - The
Acting Process (One Week)
Objectives: To reconnect
with the language learned and applied in previous courses.
To
begin to connect these concepts from an actor's point of view.
To
gain self-confidence and security in the classroom environment.

Objectives: To comprehend
the difference between Given circumstances and actor choices.

immediatley identify the given circumstances within a scene.
